Michael Kolodny
A New York City native, Michael Kolodny studied at the Aaron Copland School of Music and with jazz master Warne Marsh. Michael has performed in some of the worlds leading jazz venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and The Blue Note in New York City. He has performed with many jazz luminaries, including Budd Johnson, Joe Hunt, Harvie Swartz, Cecil Brooks III and Barry Harris. Michael has taught jazz for over 25 years, including private students, middle and high school jazz band, master classes and workshops. He is currently teaching at the Two Rivers Music Studios in Peterborough, NH and has taught the art of listening through agencies such as the Brooklyn Arts and Culture Association, Mountain Arts Program, and Hospital Audiences. He also directed the Creative Wind Ensemble at the Emerson Waldorf School. Michael and his wife Laura Pierce are the co-directors of Jazz Insight and have a deep desire to reach out to students and draw them into jazz. The mission of the organization is to empower their audience through active listening and hands on creation of jazz. Michaels latest CD is with Laura Pierce, Jimmy Cobb, Harvie Swartz and James Williams. It is a listeners workshop called "The Joy of Listening."
