Two Fiddles-- Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman
Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman, fiddlers and callers, play jigs and reels for old time barn and square dances. They call and play for schools (curriculum oriented), town halls, festivals, fairs, camps, conferences, weddings and elderhostels and elsewhere for people all ages and abilities who enjoy social dancing. No experience is needed. Dudley was distinguished to receive the 2001 NH Governor's Arts Award in Folk Heritage for lifetime achievement and excellence. Two years earlier, Two Fiddles was selected to represent New Hampshire at the 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. Touring has taken them across the U.S. and into Canada. Two Fiddles has several CD recordings and books about the music and dance. White Mountain Reel is an educational CD and book especially suited for teachers and recreation leaders. Easy to use, one track has the dance calls and the next track is only the music so leaders can do their own calls using the directions in the book. Music is three fiddles, piano, and harmonica. More about their publications and news articles about them are on their website. Both Dudley and Jacqueline are self-taught, having learned by way of the oral tradition and continue to pass this traditional playing and calling on to their students and apprentices. As a poet, Dudley has published numerous books, chapbooks and broadsides. He plays accordion, concertina, harmonica, is a Yankee storyteller and has been at all of this for over 55 years.
