General Overview | Youth | VA/VSA Programs | Adults | Arts in Education | Cultural Access Initiative
Cultural Access Initiative Improving physical and programmatic access to cultural venues for everyone! "63% of American adults [responding to the survey] would like to attend more concerts, museums, theatre, ballet, and opera performances... Due to inaccessibility issues or social stigmatization, many of these individuals did not participate in or attend cultural events though they had interest." ![]() Pam Locke enjoys an exhibit at the Currier Museum of Art © Andruskevich Photography The primary goal of the NH Cultural Access Initiative is to motivate and assist New Hampshire museums, galleries, performance venues, and open studios to identify and improve physical and programmatic access for all people. A second goal is to build audience by bringing together these cultural organizations with the disability communities. Since 2000, VSA arts of NH has designed a multi-faceted program so that cultural organizations can tailor services to their own needs and budgets. It is important to emphasize that VSA arts NH is not an "enforcement agency." Our job is to work with organizations who are interested in making their programs and facility more accessible. "Thank you for your help with the accessibility review of the facilities, exhibits, and the Gephart Trail here at the Science Center. Your enthusiasm and eagerness to help us improve our physical and programmatic access are infectious and your very practical approach to solving some of our problems is refreshing. Thank You!"- Jim Eckert, Director of Exhibits, Squam Lakes Science Center For further information on this program contact our office at |
